Once
you master creasing the ends and using double-sided tape,
your packages will look professionally wrapped
every time. Prior
to cutting, make sure you wrap the paper around the box
to determine proper length. Leave about
two inches of lengthwise overlap,
and trim the sides so they reach down to just over half
of the box when folded.
Place the gift upside
down on the paper; this way
the seam will end up on the bottom. Fold over 1/4"
of what will be the top layer's edge and crease.
Secure the flap by placing a strip of double- sided tape over the seam, flush to the edge.
Pull the paper up and around
the box: taut but not
so tight that it wrinkles. Press firmly on the seam
where you already have double-sided tape.
Add a few more tape strips under the seam at
the ends if it is a long
box, to keep the paper
together.
Fold in the sides as shown,
and crease paper
at the box's edges. Sharply crease the diagonal
edges you have formed on the top and bottom
flaps; using a ruler or bonefolder helps.
Fold down the top flap
and crease paper at the
box's edge. Repeat with bottom flap.
Fold over 1/4" of the
bottom flap, as you did with
the package's initial seam. Secure the flap with a
strip of double-sided tape over the seam, flush
to the edge.
Bring bottom flap up taut,
and press firmly to seal double-sided
tape. Repeast steps
3-5 on the
other end of the package.
